What is the difference between a Visa Debit Card and an ATM Card?
Visa® Debit card
A Visa® Debit card carries the official Visa® logo and is only be issued to members who have a checking account. A Visa® Debit Card can be used for making purchases at businesses wherever Visa is accepted (stores, restaurants, medical office, etc). The funds used in each transaction will be deducted from your checking account, sometimes immediately.
You can use your Visa® Debit card as either “debit” or “credit”, however your card is not a credit card, and you will only be able to access funds available in your checking account. When using your Visa® Debit card as “debit”, you will use the personal identification number (PIN) you pickedwhen you got your card. When you use it as “credit”, you will use your signature on paper or on a signature pad. “Debit” transactions generally clear your account faster than “credit” transactions. Sometimes you can get cash back when conducting a “debit” transaction.
You can use your Visa® Debit card to view your balances, make transfers, and withdraw cash from your savings and checking accounts at an ATM.
ATM card
If you only have a savings account, you can obtain an ATM card. This card allows you to withdraw and deposit funds, and check account balances at an ATM.
